About us
We started this because we kept buying the wrong things
It began with a labrador called Tommy and a growing pile of things that did not work.
A brush that pulled more hair out of our hand than off the sofa. A harness that came apart at the clip within a fortnight. Socks that turned on his paws the first time he ran. Every one of them had arrived with a page full of promises, and every one of them ended up in the cupboard with the others.
What they mostly had in common was the price. Nine dollars, free shipping, four hundred five-star reviews. It was too good to be true, and it was.
So we started buying them properly
Not to sell. To find out which one actually worked, because we still had a labrador and the hair was still on the sofa.
That turned into a habit. We would order three or four versions of the same thing, use them at home for a few weeks, and keep notes: which one survived the wash, which one held after a month, which one our dog would tolerate for longer than a walk. Most of them failed. One usually did not.
That one is what ends up in this shop.
What we do differently, and it is not complicated
We buy it before we sell it. Every product here has been used in a house with a dog in it before it appeared on this site. Not a sample photo from a supplier catalogue: the actual thing, out of the bag, on an actual animal.
We write down what it will not do. Every product page has a line about the situation the product is wrong for. That line costs us sales and it stays, because the alternative is a refund and a customer who will not come back.
We do not print numbers we cannot show you. No countdown timers, no "only three left", no invented review totals. Every review on this site was written by somebody who bought the thing.
One fair price. No permanent sale, no crossed-out price that was never charged. If you ever see a discount here it is a real one with an end date.
Where this leaves you
With a smaller shop than most. There are four categories here and not four hundred, because we have not tested four hundred things.
And with a straightforward promise: if the product does not solve the problem you bought it for, email us within 30 days and we sort it out. One line about what it did not do is all we ask, and that is not a hurdle. It is how we decide what to stop selling.
Tommy is nine now. He still gets his hair everywhere.
Better Pet & Co. The people who test the things before they sell them.
