Full description

A loose dog in a moving car is a driver problem before it's a dog problem.

They move to the other window, they climb between the seats, they end up in the footwell at the exact moment you need to brake. Most of us have had the version where the dog puts a paw on the gearstick.

This is a padded air mesh harness with a tether that clips into the seat belt buckle. Your dog can sit, lie down and turn around, but they stay on their seat and they can't reach the front. The chest strap is adjustable, there is a D ring on the back for the leash so you can walk straight from the car without changing anything over, and the whole thing weighs about 200 grams.

One important instruction. The tether clips to the harness, on the back, never to the collar. A collar takes the entire force of a stop through the neck. This is the single most common mistake people make with any car restraint, and it's the reason harness and tether are sold together here rather than the tether on its own.

Sizing, and read this before you order. This comes in one size, for dogs between 25 and 40 kg. Neck 50 to 72 cm, chest 60 to 80 cm. Measure the chest at the widest point behind the front legs, and the neck where a collar would sit. If your dog is under 25 kg this will not fit, and no amount of tightening will fix that.

What this is, and what it isn't. This is a restraint for containment and for keeping the driver undistracted. It is not a crash tested safety system, and we are not going to tell you otherwise. If crash performance is what you are after, look for a harness certified by the Center for Pet Safety, which is a different category of product at a different price. What this does is stop your dog roaming the car, and that is worth doing on its own.

Where to fit it. Back seat, always. Never the front, because an airbag deploying into a dog does more harm than the dog was ever in danger from.

Shipping and returns. Orders leave within 24 to 72 hours. Delivery takes 9 to 12 business days, tracked, with duties and taxes settled before it ships, so there is nothing to pay on arrival. Not right for you? Email us within 30 days of delivery and we'll refund it.

Frequently asked questions

Which dogs does this fit?

Between 25 and 40 kg. Neck 50 to 72 cm, chest 60 to 80 cm. One size only. Under 25 kg it will not fit, however far you take the straps in.

How do I measure?

Chest at the widest point behind the front legs, neck where a collar would sit. Measure with the dog standing, and use a tape rather than a guess: a harness that is loose at the chest is a harness that comes off over the head.

Is it crash tested?

No, and we are not going to tell you otherwise. It is a restraint for containment and for keeping the driver undistracted. Crash certification is a different category of product, tested by the Center for Pet Safety.

Can my dog lie down in it?

Yes. Sit, lie down and turn around, on their own seat. What they cannot do is reach the front.

Can I use it for walks as well?

Yes, that is what the D-ring on the back is for. Clip the leash to it and go, without swapping anything over at the side of the road.

Front seat or back seat?

Back seat. Always. An airbag deploying into a dog does more harm than the dog was ever in danger from.

Does the tether clip to the collar in a pinch?

No. Not in a pinch, not for a short drive. The whole reason harness and tether are sold together is to make that impossible.

Will it rub on a long drive?

The padding is there for that, but check the fit at the armpits after the first long trip. If the coat is parted or the skin is pink, it is too tight in the chest.

Anything different in winter?

Measure over the coat if your dog wears one, and check the fit again in spring. A harness fitted over a winter jacket is loose on a dog in May, and loose is how they get out of it.
