A sticky roller picks up the hair sitting on top. The problem is the hair that has worked its way into the weave, and tape does nothing about that. You go through half a roll, the cushion still looks grey, and you've bought another refill.
This works differently. Angled bristles catch the hair below the surface and pull it toward the seam down the middle, so it collects in one line instead of spreading around. Short strokes back and forth, no pressure. Pressing harder pushes hair deeper into the fabric, which is why most people make it worse before they make it better.
How it goes
Sweep back and forth over one section. Watch the hair gather along the centre seam. Pinch it, lift it out in one piece, bin it. Move to the next section. About thirty seconds a cushion.

It works very well on our couch and the fabric seats in my car. It is less effective on our thick rug, so I still use the vacuum there. For furniture and clothing, however, it is much more convenient than bringing out the vacuum every day.

The first size I ordered was a little loose, so measuring the paws carefully is important. The correct size stays on much better and gives our dog noticeably more grip on the kitchen tiles. One sock sometimes turns after a lot of running, but they work well for normal walking.

My cat sleeps in the same chair every afternoon and always leaves a layer of white fur behind. Two or three passes gather nearly all of it into one strip that is easy to remove. I have used it dozens of times and it still works just as well.

It removes our husky's hair surprisingly well and feels sturdy. My only advice is to shake off the water and leave it somewhere open after rinsing because it takes a little while to dry. Ours now stays beside the couch because we use it almost every day.

Leather, suede and deep pile carpet. On leather there is no weave, so there is nothing to lift hair out of, and on deep pile the bristles ride over the top without reaching the hair underneath. A vacuum is the right tool for a thick rug.
Not with the stroke it is designed for. Short passes, no weight on it. The bristles are angled to slide along the weave rather than dig into it, and pressing harder does not clean better anyway. It pushes hair deeper in.

Yes, and the grit that comes with it. Floor mats and fabric seats after a Canadian winter hold hair, salt and road grit together in the weave. Work in short strokes with the seat dry, and give the mats a shake outside first so you are not pushing sand back into the fabric.
