Dry fur clings to itself. The pins catch, the pet pulls away, and next time they see the brush coming they leave the room.
This one releases a fine water mist as you brush. Damp fur separates, so the pins glide through tangles and loose hair instead of dragging at them. When you're done, one button retracts the pins and the collected fur lifts off in a single piece.

How to use it
- Fill the tank with plain water. Room temperature is fine.
- Brush in the direction the coat grows, in short strokes, with light pressure. Let the mist do the work rather than the arm.
- Start at the shoulders and back. Leave the belly, legs and tail until they've settled — that's where most pets object first.
- Press the button over a bin when the pins fill up, and carry on.
Empty the tank after each session rather than leaving water sitting in it.
Dogs and cats: what's different
Dogs. Best on medium and long coats and during a shed. Work through a mat from the outside in, in small sections. If a mat is tight against the skin, don't fight it with any brush — cut it out or have a groomer take it off.
Cats. Two things worth knowing. Plenty of cats dislike the sound and the feel of a mist, so start with the tank off and let them get used to the brush dry first; it still works, just with less glide. And cat skin is thinner than dog skin, so use very light pressure and stop before they've had enough rather than after.
Water only for cats. You'll see this brush advertised for use with scented sprays and detangling products. Don't do that around a cat. Cats process phenols and essential oils poorly, and anything you put on the coat ends up in their mouth when they groom. Plain water for cats, always. For dogs, if you want to add a detangler, use one made for dogs and check the label first.
What it won't do, and shipping
It's a brush, not a bath. The mist softens and settles the coat and takes loose hair out, and that keeps them looking better between washes, but it doesn't clean skin or remove dirt. It won't undo a tight mat either — no brush will, and pulling at one hurts.
Some shops sell this style of brush as a "steam brush". There's no steam involved here and there shouldn't be: the mist is cool water, which is why it's safe to use close to the skin.

The first size I ordered was a little loose, so measuring the paws carefully is important. The correct size stays on much better and gives our dog noticeably more grip on the kitchen tiles. One sock sometimes turns after a lot of running, but they work well for normal walking.

My cat sleeps in the same chair every afternoon and always leaves a layer of white fur behind. Two or three passes gather nearly all of it into one strip that is easy to remove. I have used it dozens of times and it still works just as well.

It removes our husky's hair surprisingly well and feels sturdy. My only advice is to shake off the water and leave it somewhere open after rinsing because it takes a little while to dry. Ours now stays beside the couch because we use it almost every day.

No. It is a brush. The mist settles and softens the coat and takes loose hair out, which keeps them looking better between washes, but it does not clean skin or lift dirt.
Medium and long coats, and any coat during a shed. On a short flat coat it still lifts loose hair, there is just less of it to lift.
Twice a week through a shed, once a week the rest of the year. Short sessions beat long ones: ten minutes that ends while your pet is still happy is worth more than half an hour that ends with them walking off.
It does. Indoor heating dries the coat and the skin from November on, which is exactly when brushing pulls most. That is the season the mist earns its place. Also brush the salt and grit out after a walk, before it works its way down to the skin.
