Cats don't sleep flat. They sleep curled, tucked in, with their back against something.
Watch where your cat actually chooses to sleep and it's rarely the middle of a cushion. It's a laundry basket, a cardboard box, the gap between two sofa arms. Somewhere with edges. Cats sleep between twelve and sixteen hours a day, and they spend most of that in a curl, which conserves heat and keeps the vulnerable belly covered. A flat mat gives them none of that.
The Instinct Basket is built round for exactly that reason. The raised rim gives the head and chin somewhere to rest, the sides give the back something to lean against, and the depth means your cat is tucked into it rather than perched on top of it.
Two sizes, and the difference matters. The small fits cats up to 15 lb and measures 42 cm across. The large fits 15 to 31 lb and measures 48 cm, and that upper range also covers small dogs. Go by the curl, not the cat: measure your cat when they're already curled up somewhere and add a couple of inches. A bed that's too big defeats the point, because there's nothing to lean against.
Where to put it. This is the part most people get wrong. Cats pick sleeping spots by sightlines and warmth, not by comfort alone. Put it somewhere with a view of the room and a bit of height if you can, away from the litter box and the busiest walkway. If your cat ignores it for the first week, move it before you give up on it. Nine times out of ten it's the spot, not the bed.
What it won't do. It won't stop a cat sleeping on your bed, and it won't win over a cat who has already claimed one specific chair. Cats choose. What it will do is give them a better option than the laundry basket.
