You can wash a blanket. You can't wash a couch.
That's the whole problem. Hair works its way into upholstery and stays there, claws pull threads on the way up, and a wet dog after a walk leaves something you'll still smell in a week. Most of us solve it with a throw blanket, which lasts about four minutes before it's bunched up in the corner with the dog on the bare cushion next to it.
This one is cut to the shape of a seat rather than draped over it. Quilted corduroy with a non slip backing, so it holds its position when a dog jumps up and turns around instead of sliding off with them.
Measure the seat, not the couch. This is where people order the wrong size. Run a tape across the seat cushions from one arm to the other, and separately from the back cushion to the front edge. Then pick from these:
Small, 58 by 120 cm. Medium, 70 by 180 cm. Large, 70 by 208 cm.
If you land between two sizes, go up. A cover that's slightly long tucks in at the back and stays put. One that's slightly short leaves a strip of bare cushion at exactly the spot your dog lands.
Five colours: beige, white, grey, dark grey and green. All flat and matte, so it reads as part of the room rather than as a pet product.
What it won't do. It covers the seat, not the arms or the back, so a cat who scratches the side of the couch will keep doing that. It isn't waterproof either. It handles damp paws and normal use, but a full accident will go through to the cushion underneath, so if that's your situation you want a waterproof layer, not a fabric one.

It works very well on our couch and the fabric seats in my car. It is less effective on our thick rug, so I still use the vacuum there. For furniture and clothing, however, it is much more convenient than bringing out the vacuum every day.

The first size I ordered was a little loose, so measuring the paws carefully is important. The correct size stays on much better and gives our dog noticeably more grip on the kitchen tiles. One sock sometimes turns after a lot of running, but they work well for normal walking.

My cat sleeps in the same chair every afternoon and always leaves a layer of white fur behind. Two or three passes gather nearly all of it into one strip that is easy to remove. I have used it dozens of times and it still works just as well.

It removes our husky's hair surprisingly well and feels sturdy. My only advice is to shake off the water and leave it somewhere open after rinsing because it takes a little while to dry. Ours now stays beside the couch because we use it almost every day.

That is what the non-slip backing is for, and it is why this is cut to the seat rather than draped over the whole couch. A dog landing and turning will shift any loose fabric.
No. It handles damp paws and normal use, but a full accident will reach the cushion underneath. If that is what you are protecting against, you want a waterproof layer, not a fabric one.
No, the seat only. A cat who scratches the side of the couch will keep doing that, and we would rather say so now than have you order it for that reason.
Machine wash it. Shake the loose hair off outside first, or you will be cleaning the machine afterwards as well.
Less grip than on fabric, but the backing still holds better than a blanket. On smooth leather, tuck the back edge down into the gap behind the cushions and it stays.
On the seat, yes, as long as you measure the seat itself. On a recliner, check that the cover does not sit over the mechanism at the front.
The one closest to the couch, not the one closest to the dog. All five are flat and matte so they read as part of the room. If you are between two, the darker one shows less between washes.
It is the season it earns its place. Wet paws, road salt and a dog that comes in damp from every walk go into the cover instead of into the cushion, and the cover goes in the machine.
